Our Story

Katey & Dane

It all began over 8 years ago…

Katey is from Syracuse, NY and Dane is from Rochester, NY but they were brought together by St. John Fisher College. As student-athletes, their early college years were filled with practices, games, and busy schedules—Dane playing soccer and Katey playing tennis. But even before they had met, Dane knew Katey was the one for him . He first noticed her during freshman orientation then later on when she was featured as Athlete of the Week on the stadium billboard. Although many months would go by before they would finally meet, one could say this is the closest you can get to love at first sight.

Before the start of their Junior year, both Katey and Dane left their sport for not so similar reasons- Dane had torn both ACLs leading him to step away from soccer and Katey decided it was time to explore new interests outside of tennis. With more free time, Katey met a new group of friends who not only introduced her to Dane but would eventually become lifelong friends to them both. Katey and Dane quickly became close, but it was one unforgettable college night at Vinyl Nightclub—dancing the night away together—when everything changed. From that moment on, the rest was history. They graduated together in 2019 and have been navigating life side by side ever since.

Fast forward to June 2024, Dane got down on one knee at a scenic overlook in Pittsburgh, PA. After 6 years together, and 2 living together, Dane somehow pulled off the surprise of a lifetime. For Katey, saying “yes” was the easiest decision she’s ever made. The celebration didn’t stop there. Dane had planned one more surprise: a sky lantern festival, something that had long been on Katey’s bucket list. Surrounded by glowing lanterns in the night sky and later that night celebrating with close friends, it was the perfect way to mark the beginning of their next chapter. Soon after, Katey and Dane bought their first home together—a charming 100-year-old house in the Browncroft neighborhood of Rochester and they couldn’t be happier.

By the time they say “I do,” Katey and Dane will have been in love for nearly a decade. They are so excited to spend the rest of their lives together and cannot wait to celebrate this special day with all of you!
